Chaplain Georgia Risenhoover from The Church on Thistle Ridge teaches a class for people interested in becoming certified “hands on” volunteer chaplains. The seven-week class, taught by Chaplain Risenhoover under the auspices of the Baptist General Convention of Texas (BGCT), requires two three-hour sessions each day. Those completing the class receive four hours of seminary credit.
Chaplain Risenhoover, who has taught the class before at The Church on Thistle Ridge as well as The Way Church in Granbury, was ordained by Agape Baptist Church in Fort Worth and endorsed by the BGCT. She received her CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) certification and training at Hillcrest Baptist Hospital in Waco, where she served as a chaplain, and at Huguley Hospital in Fort Worth, where she also served as a chaplain. In 2006 she was awarded Chaplain of Year by Huguley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and for more than three years served as a hospice chaplain in Hood, Somervell and Tarrant counties.
Cost of the class is $125, which includes a workbook and other materials. All checks are to be made payable to the BGCT, and those interested in hosting a class for your church or group or in attending a future class, please call 817-573-1252 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
